Remember how a potential candidate for governor could really energize his candidacy by aligning with the marriage equality movement? Behold! (Be advised I lost formatting and pictures in my various transfers, for reasons I can’t discuss here.)

Howard County Executive and Howard County Register of Wills Byron Macfarlane In Support of on Friday July 13, 2012 at The Home of Lou and Diana Ulman Guests ~ $125 Please contribute securely online here or make checks payable to: To R.S.V.P. or with questions, please contact Contributions are not tax deductible as charitable contributions or as business expenses I love this move by County Exec Ulman, both from a social justice perspective, and a method to differentiate himself from a crowded field. And yes, I’m aware I’m being overly laudatory. More to follow. |
Careful. Your Patch is showing.
Looks like Ulman and his token gay friend just want money from gay folks. I challenge Ken to put his money where his mouth is. Donate funds raised here to a gay cause. Otherwise, it’s just painfully transparent.
JT,
Although the fault is mostly mine for a poor job of importing, the header of the announcement was Marylanders for Marriage Equality. Based on the announcement reading “Please contribute securely online here or make checks payable to: ‘Marylanders for Marriage Equality,’” I think it’s safe to assume (transparent, even) that donated funds are going towards ensuring marriage equality here in the Free State.
Then the fault isn’t mostly yours, it’s all yours.
Well, the text I quoted is in the post. If you had read the entire post, or even perused each section, you would have seen where the money was going, regardless of the pictures I inadvertently deleted. I’m willing to own my shortcomings- are you?
Oh, I missed that. If the contributions are not tax deductible (as you curiously did not mention in your comment) this is not the sort of gay cause I was thinking of. I’m sure Ken will get much or all of this money back. Ken should donate the money to a legit non-profit. Maybe a gays with AIDS focused organization or something.
The contributions are not tax-deductible, because they are going to Marylanders for Marriage Equality, which is a lobbying organization, not a charity. As TJ notes above, Ken is doing this fundraiser in order to do his part to help ensure marriage equality in this State. No-one is trying to hide the ball here, you just seem to have a different agenda. Sorry that this isn’t the type of “gay cause” you approve of.
No prob, appology accepted.
